Issa Rae

Insecure, the comedy pilot written by and starring Issa Rae, has been picked up by HBO.

The show, co-created and written by Rae and Larry Wilmore, follows the friendship of two modern-day black women, Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) and all of their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations.

Prentice Penny (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will executive produce the series with 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry, while Rae is co-executive producer and Wilmore will serve as a consultant.

Lisa Joyce, who recently landed the lead in HBO’s Lena Dunham pilot, will co-star, as will Jay Ellis

Rae, known for her hilarious and successful webseries, The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl, will tackle the same kind of issues in Insecure.
